Nicolas Baert (1st): “That was exactly the kind of performance we needed to follow the rest of the weekend so far. Fastest in FP2, then fastest in Qualifying, and now winning in my home country. I cannot believe it! That was my first-ever win in a car race, so I cannot be happier. It was a little bit dangerous for me to lose the position at the start, but I knew how to manage the situation and so I could get the position back. Then twice I had to manage a restart without getting overtaken, so I did that as well. I think my father was happier than me when I got back! He has helped me through all my young racing career, so in many ways this is more his victory than mine.”
Mike Halder (2nd): “I was carrying 30 kilos but some of the other guys were carrying 60, so I have to say the success ballast was okay for us. I made a very good start and moved up two positions, but the Audi in front was so fast and with our ballast and our speed I couldn’t attack him. We needed to score points and I think we are already in a good position for the Championship so I hope we can climb onto the podium again tomorrow. Hopefully the next few races will be like the first rounds, so I can keep up the performances I’ve had so far.”
Mat’o Homola (3rd): “I’m happy to score my first podium of the season, but I started from P2 and I was aiming to win. I knew it would be hard against the Audi cars because they are fast here, also in WTCR, also Nicolas was really fast in Qualifying. I had a really good start and I was able to overtake him, but it was impossible to hold him back and then Mike also overtook me. We struggled a little at the beginning with the tyres and so on. It is what it is and at least I was on the podium, but we will think about some changes on the car and maybe my driving style for tomorrow’s race. I will try to climb to the front and then we will see. It was a tough race, but it was important to get a podium and some good points.”
