Pepe Oriola (1st): “I’m really happy for the team, for me and for JAS as this is their home race. It’s been a really crazy year for bad luck, starting in Paul Ricard with the bonnet coming open, so to win here after fighting with Julien is really good. We knew he would be really fast and I managed to hold him off for three or four laps with his straight-line speed and me fighting against the wind - it was really good and the team deserved it. They worked really hard and they’ve always believed in me. I also believed in me, because sometimes you start to question yourself, but I think I proved to myself and to everybody else that I haven’t lost the understanding of how to drive. I also have to say that the fight with Julien was really fair and this is what we need in TCR Europe, not like we saw yesterday when so many drivers failed to finish because of contacts. I’m really happy and let’s see how I’ll do in the next race, which is my home event in Barcelona.”
Julien Briché (2nd): “It was a very fair race. Unfortunately, I made a big mistake at the start. I stalled and don’t know why. It was really a very bad start that made difficult to recover. However, eventually I finished second and battled with Pepe until the last few metres. It was fun and fair, though I’m definitely a bit disappointed, because without that mistake I could have won this race as well. Now I hope we will continue on this form for the rest of the season, beginning from the next event in Barcelona.”
Mat’o Homola (3rd): “I think that was well-deserved, as I should have finished on the podium yesterday but after the clash with Mike Halder, I lost a lot of points and I was so frustrated. We had a lot of damage to the front of the car; the guys were working until 4am to fix it and they were back in the tent at 7am, so I have to say a huge thanks to the team because they did a mega job all weekend. We were the fastest Hyundai, which was important. I tried to stay out of trouble and to drive without any mistakes and overtook as many drivers as I could. Monza isn’t an easy circuit for the Hyundai because we don’t have the straight-line speed, so I tried to stay in the slipstream as much as possible and be clever. Julien was uncatchable and so I let him go; maybe it wasn’t a sporty thing to do but I didn’t want to waste time fighting with him. It was a really good move because it meant I could be closer to Baert and overtake him. I have a much better feeling than I did yesterday!”
