Quotes from the podium finishers in Race 2

Mikel Azcona (1st): “It was a perfect weekend for us, except for the Qualifying. In both races we had the best combination of tyres, with slicks on the front and wets on the rear, also I could manage the car perfectly on the lines. Starting from P13, it wasn’t easy at the beginning; I had some contacts and I had to be careful to avoid hitting any of the cars around me. Finally, I overtook Pepe - he was on full wets and he was slower than me. The car worked very well all weekend and I am very happy with everything; the CUPRA was very fast but at the same time I was struggling at the end of the second race with the balance of the car, so I was drifting everywhere. I enjoyed the races - I told my parents after the first race that I love racing! The original plan was not to go to Jarama, but now maybe we will go. We will have to think carefully about that; it’s my home track and I know it very well, so to finish the championship in Spain would be a good idea. We are thinking about it for sure, but it’s not certain yet.”

Tom Coronel (2nd): “It was good racing, even though I made one mistake when Azcona and Filippi could overtake me and then it took me too long to overtake them again. I had really good speed, but that interfered with my chances of a win. We started from P9 and I could see there was a big mess in front. It’s typical of the style; wait a little bit and see how much benefit you can get out of the mistakes other people are making. I saw the track was drying and I knew that the guys who were on full wet tyres were going to be in trouble, so I knew that wasn’t going to be a problem. I was counting, P3 will work out and finally in the last laps I had some good fights with Filippi and he overshot a little bit at the hairpin and I dived up the inside. Okay, there was a little tap, but I think it was fair Touring Car racing and it was good fun.”

John Filippi (3rd): “It was very good; I was fighting with WTCR drivers and both of them know the cars and the track very well. It was a very good pace for them but also for me; I was in front with them in really tricky conditions. For sure, the choice of the tyres was the best one - I did a mix of slicks at the front and wets at the rear. At the beginning I was struggling a little bit because I think full wet tyres was the best choice, but after the safety car my choice was better and at the end, I think full slicks would have been better again. I haven’t looked at the points situation yet, but just a few drivers are able to win the championship now; I have to keep up my performance, so I still have a chance right up until the end of the very last race. All the guys in front have a chance to win the title and so the final weekend will be very interesting and a good challenge for me. I’m prepared for that.”
