Mikel Azcona (1st): “It was a perfect race for me because I started from the pole and I won the with a five-second gap. It seemed very comfortable, but I had to stay focused and try not to do mistakes in these very difficult conditions. I lost the car in some moments, but I could control it, then I told myself: ok, Mikel relax a little bit you have a big gap to the second car. It wasn’t easy to keep the tyres warm during the two safety car interventions and I had to look especially after the rear ones. After the first restart I lost the car and I almost went onto the gravel, but afterwards I could manage it. To be honest I love this old school track and I love to compete in these conditions so I think we should drive more here because it’s amazing.”
Teddy Clairet (2nd): “I had a tough race because of the tricky conditions, but it was the same for everyone. There were two safety car periods and it wasn’t easy to deal with them and to restart from zero twice. Even though the track seemed wet, we went for slick tyres and it was difficult to look after their temperature when we were behind the safety car. Mikel was very fast today, faster than us, so there are no regrets for what is a good result for me. My best result in the season. I’m so happy, I’m happy for the qualifying and for Race 1 too and we will see what’s happening in the second race.”
Mato Homola (3rd): “It was really important for me to have a good start because on the previous events this was a weak point. I didn’t want to lose positions, I wanted to keep the pace and not be overtaken by Bennani because he was really fast at the beginning. Then I was close to Teddy especially after the second safety car phase, and I was pushing and pushing because I didn’t want to stay in third position, but he was a little bit faster than me. Anyway, I’m really happy with this result and the podium. The car was great, our tyre choice was good, and I was the fastest of the Hyundai drivers that is the most important for me.”
