John Filippi (1st): “We had a tricky race because we didn’t know which was the best tyre strategy, full wet or full slick, so we decided to use wet on the rear and slick on the front. Towards the end of the race I saw that Mehdi was behind me, but I was able to keep him behind and it makes me very happy. I finished the race and the season with a victory and it’s a very good feeling. I’m absolutely not disappointed about the championship because I always did my best. It was a pleasure to work with Target I really enjoyed it and this year everything was fine, opposite to last year when I had no good results. It’s a very good feeling to finish the season with a victory and with the second place in the championship. I congratulate everyone, it was a great season.”
Mehdi Bennani (2nd and champion): “In each lap I felt like it was the longest of my life. When the team told me that I have nine more laps I said: oh no! And when we had the safety-car I thought: and what if somebody makes a mistake behind me? Then I would go from hero to zero, but it didn’t happen! The last lap was even endless for me, I was waiting for the chequered flag from the very first corner… I’m really, really happy because it has been a tough season and we have to congratulate the promoter because he was able to organise all the races during the pandemic.”
Julien Briché (3rd): “It was a very difficult race. My start was anything but special, but I was able to recover some positions during the first laps. Unfortunately, the first intervention of the safety car disrupted my rhythm, and this meant that my hopes to claim a victory were over. But I wanted to finish on the podium and so continued to push and had a tough fight with Azcona. However, this had an impact on my tyres that during the final laps were completely worn out; I struggled to keep control of the car, so I couldn’t prevent Bennani from passing me for P2. I took a lot of risks, but I wanted to finish in style what has been a difficult season for me.”
