Quotes from the top-three drivers in Qualifying

Mikel Azcona (1st): “It may look easy to be fast in each session, but it’s not easy at all. Jarama is a difficult track - you don’t have space to make any mistakes. I know the track and I am very confident with the car. The team did a very good job to prepare the car with a good setup. Q1 was just a normal lap; of course, we were pushing, and we had to make sure we went through. In Q2, it was a perfect lap, I have to say. To repeat that lap would be very difficult because I was pushing 100% and there were no mistakes. There’s a big gap to the second car, so I’m very happy - it’s amazing. I’m not battling for the Championship, I know that, but I want to do a very good result in Spain for the team. I will be careful with the rest of the drivers who are battling for the Championship, but at the same time every time everyone wants to win so I will keep pushing.”

Teddy Clairet (2nd): “I’m very happy - this is my best Qualifying result this year and the season has been really tough. We don’t really know the track as it’s our first time here, so we are very happy with our pace and to be P2 and P3 because it’s important for both of us to be in a good position. I’m really happy for the team, for our mechanics who’ve worked really, really hard and for Peugeot. Okay, Mikel is six tenths quicker, but he knows the track and so he is really quick here. Very few people know this track and so I’m really happy to be P2. You also have to remember that in TCR lots of things can happen so it’s always better to start P2 and P3 and be out of the way than start something like P12. Now we will see and will try our best.”

Jimmy Clairet (3rd): “This isn’t the kind of track where you have to work together to make a tow or a slipstream, it’s a little bit dangerous in TCR because the Qualifying isn’t so long. We have to focus on our own lap and today it worked really well for both of us, so I’m really happy. I know it’s supposed to rain tomorrow, but to be honest I don’t care. I just would like it to be either totally dry or totally wet because it’s better for us than to have conditions somewhere in the middle. It would be a very good finish to the season if we could both be on the podium at the last race weekend, but you never know how it will go in TCR so we will see how it goes tomorrow, but I have to say that I’m really happy to finish the last Qualifying session in this way.”
