Ruben Volt put the troubles of the opening race of the 2024 TCR Europe season behind him as he fought his way into the final podium position at Zolder, battling to get past 2022 champion Franco Girolami at Turns 3 and 4 on lap ten to reclaim the spot he lost at the start.
After a difficult first weekend last month at the season opener in Italy, Volt qualified as the best of the six-car Honda contingent in third, and reclaimed the spot with four laps to go to take his first podium since the final race of 2023, where he won the race in Barcelona.
“That was the only place I could try to overtake him as he’s a good driver, and this track is hard to overtake on,” explained Volt. “And the CUPRAs are unbelievably fast everywhere even with 40kg. That was the only chance I got, I took it, and I must say a huge respect to Franco for giving me the room.”
Volt’s now moved up to sixth in the standings after a strong start to the weekend and hopes this is just the beginning of putting his campaign back together, after winning two of the last three races at the end of 2023.
“We had a lot of bad luck in Vallelunga, so let’s hope this is the start of turning the season around and hopefully start to climb up the positions race-by-race.”
