Ruben Volt: “It was like a war” on battle through the field

Ruben Volt secured second place in Race 2 at Zolder, despite starting from eighth position, and the top points scorer of the weekend said he really enjoyed the battles through the field to take his highest finish of the season, after winning two races at the end of the 2023 season.

Volt’s final move was a robust pass on joint-points leader Franco Girolami after Turn 2 just after the restart in Race 2, his second move on the former champion in two days after having pinched the final podium position off of him in Race 1 a day earlier.

“It was really fun, but it was like a war,” he said. “I was quite lucky to get through all the scraps and I’ve got to give huge respect to the other drivers, even though there was contact, there were no crashes – it was regular touring cars where you’re making contact and side-to-side contact – and I can’t be more happy about the race.”

Volt has now made a significant recovery in the drivers’ standings after a tough opening round at Vallelunga, where he scored no points in the second race, and is now up to fifth in the points, just six behind team-mate Ignacio Montenegro.

“I’m going to continue to push as we’re still a bit behind in the championship, but I’ll do my best week in and week out, and hopefully we can end every race on the podium.”
