Ruben Volt thanks the ALM Motorsport team for “unbelievable car” at Spa

Ruben Volt’s second consecutive win this year in the TCR Europe series has moved the Estonian closer to the leading duo of Franco Girolami and Aurélien Comte in the drivers’ standings, and he thanked his team for a fantastic car which gave him the victory despite carrying the maximum possible 40kg of compensation weight after his success at the Salzburgring.

Volt managed to pass pole-sitter Felipe Fernández’s rival, and lighter Honda Civic Type R, at Les Combes, and from there he was able to control the race to take the maximum possible 40 points from the race.

“My start was really good, and then I tried to brake later than (Fernández) through Turn 1, but it didn’t work,” said Volt. “So I just got into his tow through Eau Rouge and after the Kemmel straight I just sent it around the outside. Props to Felipe for giving me enough room to work with.

“After we got him, it was a case of managing the race after that – and the team had given me an unbelievable car – even with 40kg it was really fun to drive.”

Volt is now 33 points behind points leader Girolami heading into tomorrow’s race.

“It’s been tough so far this weekend as in practice and qualifying we had some power steering problems, but in the race I had none. So we’re back in the championship and hopefully my bad luck has gone away now.”
