Tom Coronel (fastest): “I was fully on the limit because I didn’t know what the other times were. I had no predicted lap time in the car so I really didn’t know anything. I even asked my engineer in the last sector and he just said ‘push, push, push’ so that’s what I did and it was enough for pole position. I’ve always been good here at the Slovakiaring - somehow this track really suits me. The team is very strong, you can see that. We know the car, we know the people, everybody is working well together. Don’t forget that we have also done a lot of testing - of course, I’ve been testing the new car but also testing this one. I have a really good feeling with this car; sometimes you are like a passenger, but I’m like the boss of this car, that’s how I feel.”

Mikel Azcona (2nd): “I’m not disappointed. Of course every driver wants to be on pole position, but honestly Tom Coronel did a really good job and he was pushing a little too much for me. I couldn’t do any better because I was pushing on my best lap with new tyres and he did a really great lap. But I am happy to be behind him because P2 is a really good position. The difference between us is under two tenths but in the race that doesn’t matter. I feel okay for the race this afternoon so let’s see how it goes.”

Nicolas Baert (3rd): “The first part of Q2 was pretty quick, to be honest, compared to Q1. In Q1 I was a bit off in sector two, but then in Q2 it felt completely magic in my hands and I managed to do a really good lap. Compared to last year, I’m pretty happy with my starting position. If you compare Race 1 from last year with today, it’s pretty unbelievable and so I’m very happy with the result.”
