Mehdi Bennani (1st): “It’s really nice to be back on the top step of the podium, particularly on the first outing of the car as it’s brand new. It wasn’t easy, as we still had to manage the set-up of the car so we were improving a lot between FP1, FP1 and Qualifying. Many thanks to the team and to all four drivers that they were working all the time to give the best data to improve the car. At the end, we had really good pace; I could see that Azcona was quicker in some parts and I was slightly better in other parts. I was full risk, 100% in some parts and sometimes I had a lot of oversteer but that’s racing. I wanted this result for Hyundai because they choose me to be with them to help develop the car. We did it and I’m so happy for them.”
Mikel Azcona (2nd): “I feel really good with P2; I started from P9 with many cars in front of me. At the beginning of the race I didn’t know what was going on in the first corner. I decided to go on the outside line because I had a clear line and there were too many cars on the inside, plus I had Dušan Borkovič on my right and I decided to give him some room. It was the best choice as there were no other drivers on that line and I had a really good exit even though I put two wheels on the grass for a few metres to avoid a contact. The first lap was a bit chaotic, but I didn’t have any contacts so that was great. After that I could concentrate on my race; Mehdi drove really well and so I’m happy with P2.”
Franco Girolami (3rd): “It was a fantastic race and I really enjoyed the whole event in general. I am very grateful to the PSS team and JAS Motorsport for their support for giving me the opportunity to achieve this great result. This will keep us in the fight for the next race in the series and hopefully that will be even better for us.”
