Kobe Pauwels (first in TCR Europe): “I have to say that I’m exhausted after that! It’s a huge relief, of course, but it’s hard to say how I’m feeling at the moment. It’s a big team and it’s a good result, so I’m super proud. It could have been even better but that was my first Safety Car restart ever and my front tyres just didn’t feel ready at all and that’s how I lost out on third position in the KUMHO TCR World Tour. It would have been the icing on the cake but anyway. First Rookie, first place in TCR Europe and fourth overall is just amazing. It’s far too early to think about the TCR Europe title, my focus is on the Rookie championship and if we can succeed in that it would be great and we can then see where we end up later in the season.”
Tom Coronel (second in TCR Europe): “I was just trying to be clever, which worked out really well, to be consistent and just to take my points. I tried to attack a little bit, but it wasn’t that easy. If you are too close behind the guys through the high-speed corners you lose the downforce at the front which means you can’t attack. But otherwise I was happy – all under control! What happened on the last lap was a deliberate tactic; the team asked me if there was a possibility of me to move over and I said ‘if you give me a GT test for one day then I’ll do that’ and they said it was a deal!”
John Filippi (third in TCR Europe): “I feel good, but I’m not completely happy with the result because I expected it to be better, especially after the good start. The pace was not there – the first two laps meant I took a little time to be in the same kind of place I was in Qualifying and the two Free Practice sessions. The other cars also looked quite good in race set-up, so it wasn’t easy. I think I have a little work to do this evening to be ready for tomorrow’s race, when I start on pole position. My target is to win so I have to do everything I can to achieve the best result possible.”
