Teddy Clairet delighted but surprised by victory at Misano

Teddy Clairet claimed his second win of the season, and moves into a 14-point lead over his luckless brother Jimmy heading into the eight-week summer break after Misano. The French driver was surprised to hae won the race, with the three Audi teams all struggling to adapt their set-ups to the Italian circuit.

Ahead of the weekend, a change in the Balance of Performance for the Audi RS 3, along with the characteristics of the track which favoured the more corner-happy and less straight-line speed favouring cars like the Audi saw all six of the marque's cars seemingly struggling in qualifying, with Teddy Clairet the only driver to make it into the second part of the session.

“This win was not at all our expectation," said Teddy. "We just wanted to limit the damage I’d say, and score some points. In quali I got P10, but I was a bit lucky as my lap was not fast, I was nine-tenths off the pace. I had a good start, and I was in fresh air which really helped. I was definitely not the fastest on track today, but Misano it’s very difficult to overtake. I just focussed on myself and tried to not give any opportunity. It’s a very good result, but I don’t understand really how it happened today."

While Teddy won Race 2, his brother Jimmy lost the lead of the championship after scoring zero points all weekend. Qualifying down in 15th, there was no opportunity to push forward, with Jimmy's car retiring early on in both races with an apparent fuel pump issue.

“I’m frustrated about Jimmy as he’s had issues with the car all weekend, and even with the BoP, we knew it was possible to save some points in the races. It’s good what we’ve achieved, as definitely the BoP isn’t helping us, but I’m really frustrated for Jimmy as he deserved better this weekend."
