Tenerife Trophy introduced from this weekend

The new Tenerife Trophy has been introduced into the TCR Europe series effective from this weekend, and replaces the Diamond Best Trophy with immediate effect. The objective of the Trophy is to reward and recognise the achievements of up-and-coming drivers on the grid.

With a highly-competitive Youth Best Trophy in TCR Europe, where ten drivers aged 22 and under are fighting it out for the title, it’s been recognised that the Diamond Trophy for over 40 drivers needed a refresh, with only two drivers now eligible for the title.

As a result, the Tenerife Trophy has been introduced as of this weekend, superseding the Diamond Best Trophy.

The qualifying criteria is any driver who at the start of the season that has not finished on the overall podium, is not already eligible for the Youth Best Trophy, and is not a champion of another regional or national TCR category.

This weekend this means eight drivers will be eligible for the Tenerife Trophy and has a chance to stand on the top step of the podium. These are Victor Chan, Tom Chiappe, Victor Fernández, Matéo Herrero, Michael Markussen, Sandro Pelatti, Giacomo Prandelli, and Victor Weyrich.

The race-by-race prize fund of a set of Kumho tyres for the highest scoring driver at each weekend in the category will continue to be awarded, as well as a prize by the presenting sponsor Tenerife. The winning driver and a guest will be rewarded with a stay in Tenerife after winning the title at the season finale in October.
