Three-way title fight and bumper entry for Valencia finale thriller

This weekend, the 2024 TCR Europe series season finale at Circuit Ricardo Tormo in Valencia features a three-way battle for both the drivers' and teams' championships, with the largest entry list of the season for the championship curtain-closer.

Argentina's Franco Girolami enters with a slender five-point lead in the drivers' standings, racing for the Spanish Monlau Motorsport team. Girolami, the 2022 season champion, is looking to defend his title after missing 2023, but he faces a tough challenge this weekend.

His first challenger comes from SP Compétition, the hard-hitting French squad fielding an all-new CUPRA Leon VZ TCR for former factory touring car racer Aurélien Comte. Comte, who won the inaugural TCR Europe Trophy in 2017, is in the running for his second TCR Europe title.

The final contender is 19-year-old Ignacio Montenegro, the Argentinian who won last year’s competitive TCR South America series. He also secured the TCR Europe rookie championship at Brno and can still win the drivers' title, sitting 31 points behind with 90 points left to play for.

In addition to the drivers' championship, the teams' title is also up for grabs, with the Honda-equipped ALM Motorsport team leading the standings by 105 points over SP Compétition. Barring a complete disaster, ALM is on course to secure its first TCR Europe teams' title. However, the battle for second in the teams' championship is tight, with SP Compétition holding just a seven-point lead over CUPRA rivals Monlau Motorsport.

For the season finale, a 19-car field will be on track, with several additional entries expected to spice things up.

Joining the TCR Europe regulars will be the two guest drivers from Spa: Jimmy Clairet, racing a CUPRA Leon VZ run by Baldan Group by Comtoyou, and Eric Gené, piloting a third Monlau Motorsport CUPRA in support of their drivers' and teams' title bids.

Most recent TCR Italy race winner Nicolas Taylor will be the first Canadian to race in the TCR Europe series, driving one of two PMA Motorsport Audi RS 3 LMS cars, with the second driven by experienced Italian Sandro Pelatti.

Victor Fernández will join his brothers Felipe and Rubén on the grid. While Felipe and Rubén drive GOAT Racing Honda Civic Type R FL5s, Victor will compete in his venerable Audi RS 3 LMS under the RC2 Junior Team banner.

Daniel Teixera will be the first Hyundai driver on the grid this season, competing in his JT59 Racing Team-run Elantra N TCR.

The final guest entry is TCR Spain championship leader Jenson Brickley, whose family-run team will field a seventh CUPRA Leon VZ TCR for the Spanish marque’s home race.

Practice sessions take place on Friday at 12:30 and 16:05 CEST, with Qualifying on Saturday afternoon at 12:00, followed by Race 1 at 16:25. The season finale will be held on Sunday morning at 11:40 local time. All races will be streamed live on the TCR Europe series’ Facebook page and YouTube channel.
