Victor Andersson led the way in much changed conditions for the second free practice session at Paul Ricard, topping the time sheets with a time of 2:11.738 in his Monlau Motorsport CUPRA Leon in the final minutes of the session.
It was newcomer Matéo Herrero who led for most of the session, but the French driver stopped at Turn 2 with just over ten minutes left of the session in his CUPRA and was unable to improve his time and dropped to fourth in the final order.
Nicola Baldan was the closest rival to Andersson, with the Italian just under half a second down in his PMA Motorsport Audi, while yesterday’s wet running star Victor Weyrich was third quickest, placing both of Herrero Racing’s CUPRAs in the top four at the team’s home race.
Andersson’s team-mate Adam Shepherd was fifth fastest, just ahead of the fastest of all the Hyundais, which was Solite Indigo Racing’s Junui Park.
Championship leader Mike Halder finished te session in seventh place, just ahead of early points leader Alex Ley who was eighth on his return in his replacement Hyundai Elantra, with Junesung Park and Mikhail Simonov completing the top ten.
The second practice session is scheduled for 15:40 CEST.
