Victor Weyrich loses second place following post-race penalty

Victor Weyrich has lost his second-place finish at Paul Ricard after the Herrero Racing driver was handed a ten-second penalty post-race for cutting the circuit as he passed the rival CUPRA of Viktor Andersson, which drops him off the overall podium to fourth.

Fourth is still the French driver’s best result of the season, after a string of DNFs blighted the start to his TCR Europe career at Mugello and Spa-Francorchamps, despite running well in the top ten until a technical issue at the Belgian circuit.

Ruben Volt was set to move up to third and into his place, but a five-second penalty for the Estonian also for passing Felipe Fernández off track at Turn 12 dropped him down to sixth.

This elevates Viktor Andersson to second, and Tiago Pernía to third, with the Argentinian picking up his second consecutive podium result.

Weyrich still picked up a podium result as the best-placed of the Tenerife Trophy class drivers despite missing the overall podium following his penalty.

“I’m very happy to finish the race,” said Weyrich. “I know this track very well. I had a bit of luck as Mike (Halder) and Mikhail (Simonov) in front of me had punctures. It was difficult to keep Nico Baldan behind, as he was very fast at the end, but I’m very happy.”

The only other penalty handed out post-race included a five-second penalty to Santiago Concepción for an incident with Gabriele Covini.
