Viktor Andersson enjoys his best weekend yet in TCR Europe

Viktor Andersson had his best weekend yet in the TCR Europe series, finishing on the podium in both races in the TCR Europe classification of the joint-TCR Europe/TCR Eastern Europe series event.

The MA:GP Lynk & Co driver qualified in third position behind the championship-battling duo of Franco Girolami and Aurélien Comte, but dropped a spot behind the local expert Mat’o Homola, who hails from neighbouring Slovakia and has experience of Brno from the TCR Eastern Europe series.

Andersson finished fourth overall in the first race, but third in TCR Europe, while a charge through from eighth on the grid, plus the benefit of late-race contact between Comte and Bartosz Groszek, and penalties for both Comte and Girolami helped move up to both the overall and series’ podium at Brno.

“I had a good start,” said Andersson. “I was on the inside in eighth and up to fifth at the first corner. After the safety car I saw Girolami was coming from behind, and I didn’t want to make it too difficult for him as I knew he had the pace and I was hoping for there to be some chaos up front – and there was only a little bit of chaos.

“Eighth to third is very good, and with third in qualifying that’s 65 points this weekend, my best in TCR Europe so far. That may not be good for Valencia with the weight, but it’s important to score points especially in the tricky conditions this weekend,” he added, referring to the low grip many experienced.

Andersson is now seventh in the drivers’ championship, part of a close group battling for fourth, which is led by Levente Losonczy, just 23 points ahead.

“Fourth in the championship is possible, we need a good weekend again, but it’s possible and that’s what we’re aiming for.”
