Viktor Andersson leads the young drivers’ standings after podium at Spa

Viktor Andersson picked up his first podium of the season at Spa-Francorchamps, holding on to the spot after starting from pole position in the reversed grid second race, just falling behind the Audi pair of Teddy and Jimmy Clairet, but scored key points for the 21-and-under category.

It was Andersson’s first podium since Brno last year, and as the lone Lynk & Co driver in the field, he was able to hold station ahead of the chasing Hyundais of Junesung and Junui Park in the extended 12-lap race, the longest race to-date at the Belgian circuit.

“Starting on pole you always hope for a win, but today a podium is like a win, it’s the maximum we could have expected,” he said. “My start was fine, but we had nothing on the straight compared to the Audis and the Hondas. We didn’t want to have any issues, so we played it safe and slowed down a little at the end. I’m super-happy with our first podium of the year, and P1 in the young drivers’ trophy.”

Andersson now leads the Youth Best Trophy category by eight points ahead of Monlau Motorsport’s Eric Gené.
