Sweden’s MA:GP team has announced that it will enter a Lynk & Co 03 car in the 2023 TCR Europe series for 19-year-old Viktor Andersson, the son of Touring Car veteran and team owner Mattias Andersson. Andersson senior took the same car to fourth overall in last year’s STCC TCR Scandinavia series.
Although this will be his debut season in Touring Cars, Viktor Andersson is an experienced single-seater driver, racing in the USF2000 Championship in 2022 and winning the 2019 Formula Nordic title. His move to TCR Europe comes after a number of tests in Sweden and across Europe during the winter months.
Viktor Andersson said:"This is going to be a thoroughly interesting switch for me, going from single seaters to touring cars. But I'm all up for it and I'm really impressed by the Lynk & Co 03 TCR after the tests we've done so far, I can't wait to go racing in it. While pre-season testing has been encouraging, I've got modest expectations as I will meet a very tough field - especially with the KUMHO TCR World Tour joining us for the first part of the season. I will take it step by step and primarily aim for the top of the Rookie Trophy."
Mattias Andersson added:"This is a big step for both Viktor and us as a team after so many years of racing back home in Sweden. It is an inspiring challenge to race abroad and to help my son make his international Touring Car debut. We lack the experience of the teams that we will race against, but we will work methodically and aim for the top three in the Rookie Trophy."
