Volcano Motorsport will take part in the TCR Europe opening event at Le Castellet on August 22/23.
The Spain-based outfit will run a CUPRA TCR for Russian driver Evgenii Leonov. The 36-year old Leonov is a regular competitor in the TCR class of the Campeonato de España Resistencia in which he shares the Volcano-ran CUPRA with former TCR Europe champion Mikel Azcona.
Together they have scored three race wins last year and have begun the new season with a double victory at Navarra’s Circuito de Los Arcos.
“We are considering this season as preparation for a full campaign in TCR Europe in the near future. It will be very important for us to finish the races in France and to compete on the same level as the more experienced international drivers. Our aim is to become truly competitive members of the TCR Europe community,” Leonov explained.
Team manager Andrei Tkachenko added: “Our plan for this year is to take part in the full TCR Ibérico championship as well and to return to TCR Europe again at Spa and Barcelona.”
